Riverview

Jefferson City is a river city. This is the view from the end of Madison street, down the block from the Governor's Mansion. It is a view into Calloway County. All this land is undeveloped, as it tends to flood when the river is high.

We are expecting some snow today, so I am hoping to get out and get some snow shots.

Missouri Flag

Missouri politics are heating up. We have the presidental primary next week. Our governor announced he would not be seeking a second term last week. This has led to a flurry of activity in who will be running for governor. I am a little bit of a political watcher. Plus, when it comes to governor, my job could depend on it. It does seem unreal however, that we still have 9 months until November elections.

Park Bench

In the park we go to most frequently, the benches have been donated by families in honor of someone. I think it is a nice way to remember someone. Is it that way in your town?

Hoping to get out this week for some new pictures. It has been a rough month.

I have an eye infection, so there might be some more old pictures for a while until it clears up and I can get some new shots.

Skyline, small town style

Jefferson City is a small town. This is what I would call our skyline. It has the capitol at one end and the courthouse at the other.

This picture also shows some of the construction that is taking place on campus.

Lincoln History

This is a plaque on the lawn close to the Soldier's museum which gives a little of Lincoln's history. Click on the picture to make it larger to read.

Capitol View

One of the characteristics of Jefferson City is the multiple spots from which you can see the capitol. This is the view from the campus of Lincoln University.

Young Hall

This is a building on the campus of Lincoln University. I think it houses mostly administrative offices currently.

Lincoln University

Jefferson City has one major univeristy, Lincoln University. It has other University's which have buildings or have classes in Jefferson City, but Lincoln is the only one which has a campus. The students are back in town and classes start for the semester today. Lincoln was established by the soldiers of the 62nd and 65th Colored Infantries in 1866 for African Americans interested in continuing their education. It is a historical black university, but is now open to all races. This picture is of one of the newer buildings, Page Library. I will be featuring pictures of the campus all week.

Trees

I have really liked photographing bare trees this year. I am not sure why. I was showing this picture to my daughter and she asked me why I took the picture. She then proceeded to tell me that after trees loose their leaves, they are NOT pretty. I think I disagree with her, because I really like this photo.

Cold Again.

Our brief springlike weather has come to an end and it now cold again. I get spring fever easy and it not good to have it in January!

I think this dog almost looks like a wolf.

Resolutions

Do you make resolutions? I do. I actually make 100 resolutions. That way at the end of the year, I feel like I have accomplished a lot, as I usually get about 30 or so done. If I made a list of 10, I would maybe get one done. One of my resoultions this year is to get more exercise. I think this is probably the 10th year at least it has been on the list.

70 degrees in January?

We had some unseasonably warm weather this weekend, so we headed to the park. Not often that you get the play in the park in January here in Jefferson City. Seems like lots of people were taking advantage of the good weather.

Church at Night

I am learning a little more about night photography. This was taken right before Christmas. Tomorrow I am planning on getting out and taking some pictures for the blog.

Neighborhood Streets

This is a picture of a local neighborhood after the ice storms. You can see the brush piles in everyone's front yards. Even close to a month after the storm there are many brush piles left.

Ice Storm Update

Another picture of the broken tree from the ice storm back in December. We are finally officially cleaned up from the storm. All limbs have been hauled away. I am also posting this picture as I have been sick and not been able to get out and shoot more pictures and I am running low on the archives. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to get out. The weather is suppose to be warm and in the 60's and since yesterday it was in the 20s it sounds wonderful. (No wonder I am sick also!)

Governor's Garden

This garden is below the Governor's mansion. This picture was taken last November. It is much more colorful in the spring and summer of course and I cannot wait until them to get some shots of it. There are often weddings on weekends and many photographers doing family and senior pictures milling around.

Monthly Theme Day: Best Photo of the Year

I am not sure this is my best photo, but it is my favorite. I like the way it shows the scale of the capitol with my husband and daughter. This is actually a picture I am thinking about repeating yearly to show her growth.
