Missouri State Penitentiary


They are restoring the old correctional center, as it is no longer being used as a prison. It really is a beautiful building, considering what it was built to do, house prisoners. I believe they are making it a museum. It is all part of the Central East Side Neighborhood Plan. At one time it was the oldest operating prison west of the Mississippi. It opened in 1836 and closed in 2004.

That's a very impressive urban ruin. I'm glad to see they are preserving and reusing it. Our downtown is rehabbing a lot of historic buildings too.

Looks like a beautiful building, scary that it was in use until 2004 it doesnt look in that great a shape.

I used go there with a prison ministry group. Mixed emotions.
