State Employee Appreciation Week

Today marks the start of state employee appreciation week. This picture is one of many state buildings that looks similar, drab and blah. Not much to really take a picture of with these buildings, but it is where a lot of the work gets done. Many people have opinions about us who work for the state, but let me be the one to say, it is not all that it is cracked up to be. Yes, we get many holidays. This week is one of them. Who else can say they get Truman Day off of work? However, the pay is low, the frustration is often high, and the praise is far and few between. So to all government employees everywhere, I appreciate you.

*this building is actually the Department of Health and Senior Services and where you go to get a copy of your birth certificate, which you now need to get a driver's license and many other benefits.

What a bleak building. You guys have a tough job - underfunded, understaffed and no prospects of improvement in our great state.

The second picture is poignant. Such a simple statement of the bookmarks of our existence.
