Restaurant Friday - Madisons

Madison's is an Italian place just around the corner from the capitol. This is not my best picture, but I am running out of my stash. I need to get out and take some pictures this weekend. Tonight starts the Christmas festivities in town, so I don't think that will be a problem. Everyone have a good weekend.

Capitol Tuesday

This pictures was taken from what really is the front of the Capitol. Many people think it is the back, as this is not where you go in. The front faces north. Then entrance is on the south side.

Truman Office Building

This is the Truman State Office Building. It sits on the corner of High and Broadway looking across to the Capitol. It houses, the Office of Administration, Insurance, Revenue and I am sure a few other state departments. I think it also has the only escalators in town.

It is beginning to look like Christmas....

Everyone has been putting up Christmas decorations this weekend. Well everyone except us. We have not started yet. This wreath was actually up a week ago outside the Cole County Historical Society.

Local television

Jefferson City only has one local television station. The other two main stations are out of Columbia. Even this station is really in Holt's Summit, or almost to New Bloomfield. It is a CBS affiliate, KRCG.

This is one of the three locations for the mexican restaurant El Jimador. The parking lot almost always looks like this. Good place to eat or drink. Thursday nights are happy hour with really cheap Margaritas!

Weekends In Columbia

The whole concept of this blog is to post pictures of Jefferson City and things happening in Jefferson City. However, if I do not occasionally post things happening in Columbia, Missouri also, you are really going to get sick of seeing the capitol. Most special events, sporting events, concerts and the like, come to Columbia, not Jefferson City. Columbia is only 30 minutes away from Jefferson City. Many people in Columbia work in Jefferson City and many people in Jefferson City, work in Columbia. It is a "metro area" of sorts in that way. Not much in the way of night life in Jefferson City for the most part.

Tonight was the Dierks Bentley concert at the Hearnes Center on the campus of the University of Missouri. We had great seats and had a great time. The pictures are not the greatest as I only took my pocket camera not my Nikon, and then the batteries started to go dead. I did get a couple of decent shots in for the night though.

High Street is the main downtown street. Like many downtowns, not much happening there anymore. That is the courthouse in the distance.

One Year and Counting

The election for Governor is still a year away, but it is already heating up here in Jefferson City. Of course the better part of the city's jobs depends on the government and with the Governor and the Attorney General up for change, a lot of jobs could too. Happy Election Day.

New Feature, Restaurant Friday

For a town its size Jefferson City has a lot of places to eat. So each Friday I am going to feature a different restaurant around town. Today's restaurant is Arris's Pizza Palace located downtown. Very good greek style pizza.

Monthly Theme Day - The Color Blue

November's monthly theme is the color blue. I was actually having a really hard time coming up with something blue in Jefferson City, even trying to think outside the box. Then I drove down Missouri Blvd, which is the main drag here in Jeff City, and saw Wal-Mart, which is of course the main store in town. Not as bad as it once was, there is a Target now, but 15 years ago, Wal-mart was the only show in town. In fact Jefferson City was one of the first Super Centers in Missouri. Now the state is littered with them and Jefferson City is on it's way to getting it's second one.
