Capitol Details

These lights are on an unsed entrance to the Capitol. I have photographed the capitol a lot, yet the other day was the first time I was on the east side and saw these.

Spring has Sprung

I am so happy that it is finally getting around to looking like Spring around here. I have the first sunburn of the season and their are flowers blooming everywhere. This is a tree that is around the capitol area. I have always referred to them as Magnolias, but have no idea if that is correct or not.

Monthly Photo Day - What my city is known for

This was a no brainer for me as far as the subject. The capitol. My favorite thing to photograph. Now how to photograph it is always a challenge to me. This is from the East. The construction is a new Lewis and Clark memorial, which is the other thing that my city is known for. The capitol is actually more symbolic for what my city is known for; government. When people in my state say, "what happens in Jeff City", they mean, what government does. More appropriately, I could have used a picture of a state building, or a state worker, or even an interest group office, as Jefferson City is also overflowing with them. But this building, is the one everyone thinks of when they think Jefferson City, but it is not the one where most of the work takes place.

Capitol View

One of the characteristics of Jefferson City is the multiple spots from which you can see the capitol. This is the view from the campus of Lincoln University.

Motto

Here you can see the motto of the state etched into the capitol.

St. Peters

This is a picture of St. Peter's before the ice or the snow came to town. It is the catholic church which is right off the capitol complex. In fact this picture was taken while I am standing right in front of the capitol steps.

Capitol Tuesday

This pictures was taken from what really is the front of the Capitol. Many people think it is the back, as this is not where you go in. The front faces north. Then entrance is on the south side.

Truman Office Building

This is the Truman State Office Building. It sits on the corner of High and Broadway looking across to the Capitol. It houses, the Office of Administration, Insurance, Revenue and I am sure a few other state departments. I think it also has the only escalators in town.

One among many state office buildings in Jefferson City. Houses offices for Social Services and the Attorney General's Office. In the Capitol Complex, on the corner of High and Broadway.

My favorite thing to take pictures of in town is the capitol. It is situated in such a way on a hill that you can see it from all places in town on clear days. This is a view from the west.

Fountains

One of the many fountains around the Capital Complex. During the budget crisis the fountains were turned off due to the cost, but someone donated money to keep them running.

This year's theme for Art Inside the Park is wildflowers. This one is about recycling.

Art Inside the Park

Art inside the Park begins this weekend in Jefferson City. This year it has been moved to the grounds of the Capitol, from Memorial Park. In Jefferson City, the Capitol grounds are used for a lot of the main events.

Our namesake

This is a statue of Thomas Jefferson, which stands on the steps of the southside of the capitol building.
