George Washington Carver State Office Building

This Department of Agriculture's building was renamed recently after George Washington Carver, who was born in Missouri. Took a Senate Resolution and a Governor's Executive Order to do this. The Governor actually got two press days out of this, the day he signed the order and the day they actually had the ceremony at the building. I wonder how many people even notice that the building is named after someone. Politics can be such a very funny thing.

Shhh... I am Hunting for Wabbits.....

Our beagle has been near impossible to get back into the house lately. He tracks the entire yard. He lays at the fence staring at certain spots (I am assuming where the rabbit last escaped). He rolls over and over on his back trying to mask his smell. Good thing this dog is so darn cute, or he would be really testing my nerves.

Fishing Weather

This is the same dock I featured on the blog this winter. I am so glad it is finally warm enough to enjoy the things that the parks have to offer.

More Challenger Baseball

Here is another picture from the Challenger baseball game I attended. It was a great game. I think kids need to play sports more for fun anyways and not always to win, so it was great to see a league with emphasis on just that.

Challenger Baseball

Our parks and recreation has started a league called Challenger Baseball. It is a baseball league for children with special needs. It was great to watch them play, because the emphasis was enjoyment and not winning. Everyone gets to bat, everyone plays in the outfield. There are helpers who help each child do the best he or she can do. Here is the fact sheet on the league.

Memorial Day Weekend

It is Memorial Day Weekend in the United States. I am able to post regular pictures since Blogger now has scheduled posts.

From Wikipedia:

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After WWI, it was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. It is also traditionally viewed as the beginning of summer by many.

This picture is from the local military cementary, Jefferson City National Cemetery.

All Grown Up

The birds have now flown away, so these are going to be the last pictures of them probably. It was sad to see the empty nest the morning after they flew away, but I am glad that all three birds made it to fly away.

Just about ready to fly away.

Parents still trying to help them out with a meal every now and then.

School Zones

The official sign of summer. School being over. Only if we all got summer vacation like we did when we were in school.

The American Dream

It is weird how you get images in your mind that you just cannot shake. To me this is the perfect house. Even though, when we bought our house five years ago, I looked at houses similar to this one and did not like the house inside at all. But still this lives as the American Dream in my head.

First Bikes

Nothing says summer like learning to ride a new bike. We had weather in the 80s this weekend. Perfect weather for taking a new bike to the park to ride.

Checking In on the Little Birds

I wish this picture was a little clearer. The mother robin was pretty nervous I was near and mostly spent the time I was on the deck on the power line or in the tree with a close eye on me.

Spring Picnic Table

Time to dust off the picnic table for the year. This one is looking a little old. Of course, as my daughter says, you don't need a table to have a picnic, you can have one on the ground!

The Eggs Have Hatched!

The robin who built her nest on our bathroom window, which I featured last week, had her babies. This is the best I could do for now, as the window has a screen in it and they are not quite above the nest to take the pic from the outside.

Construction

Do you have a lot of new construction going on in your city? We seem to, at least commerical construction. Although, it does not seem that we have anything going into the new buildings, just new buildings going up.

Feathered Friends

This is our new feathered friend that has taken residence on our window seal to our bathroom. There are three eggs in the nest. Hopefully I will be able to get pictures of the babies when they hatch.

State Employee Appreciation Week

Today marks the start of state employee appreciation week. This picture is one of many state buildings that looks similar, drab and blah. Not much to really take a picture of with these buildings, but it is where a lot of the work gets done. Many people have opinions about us who work for the state, but let me be the one to say, it is not all that it is cracked up to be. Yes, we get many holidays. This week is one of them. Who else can say they get Truman Day off of work? However, the pay is low, the frustration is often high, and the praise is far and few between. So to all government employees everywhere, I appreciate you.

*this building is actually the Department of Health and Senior Services and where you go to get a copy of your birth certificate, which you now need to get a driver's license and many other benefits.

KRCG WeatherCast Lab

It is storming here again today. It is pretty typical for storms all through the spring in Missouri. This picture is of Lee Gordan, the noon weather man on KRCG, our local CBS affiliate in the KRCG WeatherLab. Lee is also station manager and began with the station in 1955.

Daily Theme Day - Numbers

This one was a hard one for me. I finally settled on this photo, with numbers in it. Looks like this person's time is up. Hope they don't get a ticket.

Don't forget to visit all the other blogs for the monthly theme day.
