Missouri State Penitentiary
They are restoring the old correctional center, as it is no longer being used as a prison. It really is a beautiful building, considering what it was built to do, house prisoners. I believe they are making it a museum. It is all part of the Central East Side Neighborhood Plan. At one time it was the oldest operating prison west of the Mississippi. It opened in 1836 and closed in 2004.

that is old, amazing, would love to see the interiors too if and when you get a chance...
That's a very impressive urban ruin. I'm glad to see they are preserving and reusing it. Our downtown is rehabbing a lot of historic buildings too.
That is a great old building! I'm happy to hear it will get a second life!
This is an amazing building and a museum would be really good use for it, great shot.
Looks like a beautiful building, scary that it was in use until 2004 it doesnt look in that great a shape.
wonder when the museum will be open...would like to see my old home when it is open for tourism...lol
I used go there with a prison ministry group. Mixed emotions.
